What You Should Know...

Attire:  It is important that you dress in comfortable clothes.  Wear anything that allows you to move freely without restriction.  Knit pants and top or shorts and T-shirt are frequently clothing of choice.

Take off your shoes:  We dance Nia in our bare feet.  If you are uncomfortable doing so, you can wear your shoes or a jazz or ballet slipper.  If you haven't danced in your barefeet, please try it at least once.  We consider our feet to be the hands that touch the earth.  Just as in reflexology or a good foot massage, there are many benefits to dancing in our bare feet that you will discover once you do it.

Water Bottles:  Bring your water or feel free to walk out of class to get a drink of water.  We will be moving non-stop during class and it is important to replace the liquid you will lose through perspiration.

Class Focus:  Each class will have a specific focus to broaden our body awareness.  I also email a weekly focus to any student who provides me with their email address.  Just email me at diedre-nia@cox.net and I will add you to my mailing list.

Video Tape: You can extend your class experience by using the Global Unity video tape at home.  Email me or let me know at class if you would like a video tape.  They are available now for $25.
Do you ever dance to music in your living room or kitchen?  Remember the feeling of just moving to music when no one is watching?  We'll experience that same joy of movement when we dance together at Nia.  Please bring your "freedom factor" to class and leave your "judge" at home.  We will have fun playing to music and allowing our bodies to experience the joy they once knew in your youth.  Let's rediscover it together!
